DeLaval celebrates World Milk Day 2008

World milk day

In celebration of the eighth annual World Milk Day on June 1, DeLaval International encourages all employees around the globe to support the Day which was founded by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations in 2001.

It is an important day that observes the significance of milk and activities associated with the milk industry.  Staff worldwide is commemorating the annual event in its own special way.

The DeLaval headquarters in Sweden has invited a guest speaker, Lars Gardhage, Dairy Manager of Arla Foods to share his expertise in the dairy industry with its employees. Staff will enjoy the Day with refreshing milk and Swedish buns.

DeLaval Denmark will mark the event by inviting all employees to a healthy milk breakfast to start the day.

In Brazil, DeLaval staff will collect milk for donation to an institution of their choice. Employees are encouraged to bring as many liters of milk as they want.  To enjoy the day, a milk break will be organized with various products from the Agrindus farm.

DeLaval Bosio in Argentina is conducting educational talks to highlight the importance of milk, to students in primary schools and athletes from clubs in the city. These groups are selected to stress the importance of milk as an essential source of nutrients for an adolescent person, and its necessity in the diet of athletes. The day will also include a talk on milk production, a video showing the development of the dairy business, and a presentation by a nutritionist on the vital role of milk. Employees will each receive a liter of milk.

DeLaval Canada will give away complimentary Kawartha Dairy milk to students of Peterborough Collegiate and Vocational School as part of their breakfast programme. Gerry Coughlin, winner of the 2007 Milk Quality Award for Peterborough County will be on hand with a Holstein cow and calf as a visual reminder of the source of the valued food.

DeLaval USA will celebrate the occasion in conjunction with DeLaval 125 years. A booth of 10’x10’ will be set up at Farmers Markers, City Market in Kansas City, and some 5 000 visitors are anticipated.  Business partners will be providing free milk, cheese and ice cream. Staff will be wearing t-shirts specially ordered for the event. Promotions are being done in Kansas City Star and on local television.

In Egypt, DeLaval & Tetra Pak will jointly produce posters. Two booklets will be done — one with recipes containing milk and the other is facts about milk.
A competition on “Who will drink more milk” is also arranged on that day.

The World Milk Day is a significant event as it helps to generate more attention in schools and the general public on milk, as a fundamental requirement in a healthy diet. Many countries honour this particular day as it allows an opportunity to promote the nutritional values in milk which is consumed globally.
