The new herd management system Herd Navigator won the three star New Product Europe award, in competition against 21 other solutions, at Agromek 2008 in Denmark. The three stars indicate that the product has a completely new or important new construction or composition.
”Herd Navigator is a new solution that will support the dairy farmer in managing their herds, improving the cow health and feed control and at the same time reducing the operation costs. The solution is mainly for large herds where it warns about diseases and other deviations. The system is a result of unique research developed in co-operation between DeLaval International, FOSS and the Danish Cattle Federation,” the jury’s motivation read.
Herd Navigator provides the opportunity to improve the financial result from each cow: early alerts warn the milk producer of the appropriate quick action needed for individual cows, for reproduction, health and nutrition. Proactive action will also improve animal welfare and food safety. The solution focuses on three areas: cows in heat, cows with ketosis or with an imbalance in their feed and cows in mastitis.
“Herd Navigator is a significant innovation in herd management as the system automatically measures different components in the milk while the cow is being milked,” says Jesper Bagge Pedersen, General Manager Herd Navigator Danmark A/S.
Agromek is the largest agricultural exhibition in Northern Europe. More than 1 200 companies are represented on 580 stands.
