On June 22 DeLaval Belgium received The Environmental Charter award at a ceremony held in Gent, Belgium. The Environmental Charter award is presented to companies that have a long term commitment to environmental issues, works with pro-active projects and follows environmental legislations. DeLaval was one of the companies found to be excellent in their actions to reduce environmental impact.
The award was founded by the Flemish Government after an initiative of the Chamber of Commerce to set up the Environmental Charter Project. The project aims to stimulate and implement sustainable environmental improvements. To qualify for the project award an environmental action plan has to be developed and carried out.
DeLaval’s plan contained several projects that minimises the effects on the environment in several areas. The company got ISO 14001 Certification and launched project that significantly reduces good transportation. The old wastewater treatment system was replaced with a new flexible system which makes it possible to buffer wastewater in the event of an incident. Also, the wastewater from the pharmaceutical production is treated by a new reverse osmosis unit. This will make it possible to recycle the wastewater in the production process.
The evaluation commission that elects the winner consists of experts from a number of environmental entities. They evaluate the candidates on performance and execution of the action plan. The Environmental Charter award is recognition of the efforts DeLaval Belgium has made to reduce environmental effects.
DeLaval has a strong commitment to environmental issues and the company focuses on all aspects of their business to reduce environmental impact in all links of the dairy value chain.
