The award – founded by the Flemish Government – was set up after an initiative of the Chamber of Commerce. It aims to stimulate and implement sustainable environmental improvements. To qualify for the project award an environmental action plan has to be developed and carried out.
DeLaval’s plan contained projects which minimised effects on the environment in several areas. The company got ISO 14001:2004 Certification and installed the Vivaldi QMS software to support the quality, environment and safety management systems. A feasibility study for recuperation of RO-wastewater and reuse of rainwater to reduce water consumption and wastewater volume was launched and a recycle system for refill cans, in which used cans are collected, reconditioned and reused, was optimised for better effect.
The Environmental Charter award is presented to companies that have a long term commitment to environmental issues, works with pro-active projects and follows environmental legislations. DeLaval was one of the companies found to be excellent in their actions to reduce environmental impact.
“DeLaval has a strong commitment to environmental issues and we focus on all aspects of our business to reduce environmental impact in all links of the dairy value chain,” says Dieter Van Assche, Environmental co-ordinator at DeLaval NV.
