DeLaval sells the largest sheep and goat parlour in the world

There is a growing interest for cheese made from sheep and goat milk. The rise in demand stimulates investments in new technology to optimise the milking process, both in terms of quantity and quality. One example of this development is DeLaval’s recent sale of the largest sheep and goat milk parlour in the world to a customer in Spain.

Growth in combination with higher demands on efficiency and profitability are key factors behind the sale. The agreement includes the milking unit itself, a number of other products, for example cooling tanks, crowd gates, surface coating, lamb/kid feeders and mixer wagons.

“Considering the bright prospects in Spain, not least given the favorable price level of sheep and goat milk, we expect to deliver several similar systems to farms with between 2,000 and 5,000
animals”, says Roberto Cosin, Solution/Support Manager Sheep & Goats at DeLaval.

DeLaval has strengthened its position on the sheep and goat market and is now the world’s leading supplier with a market share of almost 50%. At present more than 80% of sales go to customers in Spain, France, Italy and Greece, but there are signs of growth in other parts of the globe, for example the US, Mexico, Norway and Germany.

“One important competitive advantage is the good reputation that our network of dealers has built up throughout the years, especially when it comes to quick and reliable service. Tailored solutions and good service means that we can offer our customers both reliability and improved profitability,” concludes Eric Crespo.
