VMS farmer receives Gold medal for quality milk

Since 1958 the Swedish Dairy Association has awarded farmers who have delivered first class milk for 23 consecutive years with a Gold medal. This year, DeLaval Voluntary Milking System farmers, Gerd and Lars-Erik Danielsson received the prestigious medal from the hands of the Swedish King at a ceremony held at the Concert Hall in Stockholm on February 14.

The Gold medal is the highest distinction the Dairy Association awards dairy farmers who have proved to have “skills and a sense of responsibility” in connection with production of quality milk. To qualify as a gold medallist the farmer has to deliver supreme quality milk from healthy cows for 23 years. This means that more than 16 800 milkings and approximately 1 500 quality tests have been carried out at the farm.

This year Gerd and Lars-Erik Danielsson were proud winners of the Gold medal. The Danielsson family installed a VMS at their farm Guldsmedsbo in April 2000. For five years they have produced superior quality milk with their VMS.

”Our goal was always to produce quality milk from healthy cows. Healthy cows that feel good deliver high yields of the highest quality. I am sure that automatic robot milking is the best option for animal welfare. With a VMS system the natural behaviour of the cow is taken into consideration. And there is no doubt that my cows enjoy the VMS, all you have to do is to look into the barn” says Lars-Erik Danielsson.

“Consumers today want safe food and access to healthy dairy products. The work made by farmers to ensure premium quality products can never be underestimated” says Joakim Rosengren CEO of DeLaval International AB. ”This is just one example of how DeLaval Voluntary Milking System consistently helps in delivering high quality milk. Even the most demanding farmers will find the right hygienic designs to help them meet their quality goals.”
