Getting to know Hamra Farm

A day at Hamra would start with a general presentation about DeLaval and Hamra Farm.

After the introduction we have a look at the museum and the history of DeLaval over the past 128 years. This also includes the history of Hamra Farm, as well as examples of historic agricultural products.

We also visit the DeLaval Exhibition Hall, the home of Smart Farming, which offers a unique collection of the solutions DeLaval is developing, manufacturing and distributing today worldwide. It clearly shows the progress made in dairy farming, compared with what is on display in the museum.

We have a herd size of around 500 (milking cows and youngstock) at Hamra and they are housed in three different barns.

  • The Big Barn: a traditional stanchion barn originally built by Gustaf DeLaval in 1900.
  • The R&D Barn: a loose housing barn where some of our product development takes place and most of our product assortment is tested. (not all areas are open for visits)
  • The VMS Barn: a loose housing barn built in 2002, showcasing our robot for automatic milking, the voluntary milking system (VMS).

We mainly cater visits for our customers, milk producers, but we also arrange study tours for agricultural students, industry and government representatives and other companies.
