“We built a brand new dairy using state-of-the-art technology because we want to be around for another 50 years.”
The team at Oakridge Dairy has their sights set on the future. “Our dairy is going to be here for many generations,” shares Seth Bahler, owner and member of the management team at Oakridge Dairy.
A long-time DeLaval customer, Oakridge Dairy focuses on providing a wholesome, quality product to their customer. Seth shares that their dairy has to be as efficient as possible and employ the right people to continue remaining sustainable. He keeps a careful eye on, “making sure all the pieces of our operation are always improving: the animals, the land, and our assets.”
After upgrading to a DeLaval Rotary milking system PR3100HD, the dairy saw many benefits. They are now able to milk more cows with the same amount of labor previously needed and have seen a decrease in their somatic cell count thanks to more consistent milk quality.
In addition to the new rotary milking system, the dairy built a new cross-ventilated barn to optimize cow comfort. “We try to give the cows the best possible place to live using the new technologies available to us,” says Seth. He adds that all of their decisions on the farm center around keeping their cows content. The dairy’s slogan sums it up well: Happy cows make lots of milk.
Seth credits much of the farm’s success to their team of employees. The team is comprised of 40 people, all working together to keep operations running at Oakridge. “A great team is most important. If we have a great team, we can get anything done,” Seth says.
