"We went with robotic milking to reduce the stress on both staff and the cows and to basically find an easier way to milk cows"
John Fisher, owner of Fisher Farms, has 320 cows and took the plunge into robotic milking systems despite never using much technology on his farm before.
"It is a big deal changing from conventional milking to robotic milking but DeLaval have been there with us all the way helping us work through the computer software,” John says, “We have now got heaps of information that is being recorded for each cow and it is going to enable huge changes in how we manage the cows and the farm.”
“The benefits we’ve seen from the robotics is being able to treat the cows as individuals,” John says, “Some cows milk once a day, some milk twice a day. Once they’re trained they’re very relaxed.”
I thought it would have been quite a challenge and would take a long time to get the cows to adapt to the robotic milking system but it has been quite remarkable how quickly they have adapted and started strolling in on their own".
Fisher Farms have also benefitted from the increased flexibility provided by the VMS system. “I can check things remotely through my laptop or my phone.”
“The service and the support has been very good.”
