“We have the most up to date technology available to us and we have a system that we can build on as we go along. As technology develops, the shed can be developed with it.”
Derek and Catherine Hayward’s farm milks around 320-340 cows on 124 hectares, and they’re looking into the future of technology to help advance their farm production.
“We’re aiming to increase our production while remaining efficient,” say Derek. “With the size of the property and the way we were headed we wanted a shed that was basically able to handle the number of cows and the operation by one person.”
They installed a DeLaval Parallel Parlour with Rapid Exit (P2100) and are now have a system that works for their growing farm and can be easily upgraded. “We have a system we can build on,” says Derek.
Since their new shed has been introduced, Derek has noticed an increase in comfort, health and safety of the cows and the operator. “Being herd of multiple breeds, obviously cow size can vary. Every cow’s accommodated for,” he says, “The cows are in so much quicker so much more comfortably. Their comfort has been well catered for.”
The Haywards are enjoying the new improvements to their farm and herd management. “Here’s to the future, I suppose,” Derek says.
